Michael Heffernan, Board President

Mike was born in San Francisco and raised in Marin County. He attended Marin Catholic High School and graduated from Santa Clara University in 1980.  Mike has been in the insurance industry his entire professional life.  As a long-time advocate of charitable giving, he made it a goal to incorporate this philosophy into the company’s culture. Mike currently lives in Marin and has two children. A long-time Giants fan, he hopes to see them win the World Series one day.

Emily LoSavio, Board Secretary/Treasurer
Opportunity Impact Founder and Executive Director

Emily was born in San Francisco and raised in the Bay Area. During her time studying Law & Society at UC Davis, she was involved in a youth development and community rehabilitation project that solidified her desire to work in social services. While studying abroad in Italy, she realized the importance of maintaining a community perspective in working with youth. She graduated from the Coro Community Fellows Program for civic leadership in fall 2004 and has been lucky to serve on several non profit boards. After working with youth for much of the past decade, Emily was tired of meeting youth who needed support, but the solution "wasn't in the mission." She vows that Opportunity Impact's response to youth will always be "that's what we do!"

Terry Phelan, Board Member

Terry Phelan is a graduate of Michigan State University and earned her MFA from Mills. A former administrator, she is a poet and free-lance writer. She has been active in her children's schools and on several boards, including the California Intelligent Transportation Society, the Marin Poetry Center, and the Children's Cottage Co-op. She currently serves on the Steering Committee for the Marin Poet Laureate in conjunction with the Marin Arts Council.

Don Vita, Board Member
CEO, Vita Design Inc.

Mr. Vita has a wide range of experience gained throughout his twenty-five years of practice in planning and landscape architecture including new community development in the western U. S.; urban design, city planning and waterfront assignments in New York, Hong Kong, China and the Philippines; and landscape design for private estates throughout the United States, Singapore and Hawaii.

Jen Mahoney, Board Member
Heffernan Insurance Brokers

Jen Mahoney was born and raised in Marin County, California.  She obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering from University of California Berkeley in 2004.   After graduation, she became a staff engineer for a Bay Area environmental consulting firm.  Jen has always had a interest in giving back to the community and has been involved with various non-profits.  So, in 2006, Jen joined Heffernan Insurance Brokers as an executive assistant to the CEO in order to learn more about business and participate in the non-profit world.  Heffernan Insurance Brokers is recognized for its consistent involvement in numerous community non-profits.  Jen has been actively involved in the formation of Collective Impact.  Jen’s commitment, knowledge and intelligent outlook are an asset to the Board of Directors for Collective Impact.
